The 28th annual Bridgefest Celebration was held the weekend of June 20-22, 2015. This year is the 55th year since the Opening Ceremony for the Bridge, and is also the year that the first major upgrade and replacement of cables has occurred, Work will continue into 2016.
The Alfred Erickson Post 186, American Legion, of Hancock, leads off this year’s Friday evening Parade in beautiful weather. The combined Hancock/Houghton High Schools Marching Band performs for a large crowd. The Superior Pipes and Drum Corps performs with their dancers and music. Maintaining the Bond Between Communities, the Portage Lake Lift Bridge.
The Rock Camp, held each year for aspiring musicians. With a contingent from the Bluffs Senior Community approaching, these toddlers hope for some more candy. The 2015 Bluffs Mardi Gras King and Queen. The Hancock Business and Professional Association makes their appearance.
Rick Freeman, of Northwoods Sports, and a major force in the Houghton County Fair Association, brings a reminder that it will be held this year August 26-30, in Hancock. This dragster is part of the Superior National Bank contingent. Marty’s Goldenaires of Bessemer, MI. The Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club, who oversee and maintain the Maasto Hiihto Ski and Churning Rapids Ski Trail System.
Celebrations brought this entry to the Parade. The Copper Dog 150 Dog Sled Races, in Calumet. Cypress Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. UP Health System, Portage Group, of Hancock, formerly Portage View Hospital.
Promoting a different way to get a refreshing sauna, when room for a more standard sauna is not available. The Ishpeming Blue Notes Drum and Bugle Corps. The Aspirus Health Bridgefest Band. Vollworth’s Sausage Company, celebrating their own Anniversary this year, with an expansion of their Hancock facilities. Congratulations.
This is a new competition, coming to the area on July 25th. A great old vintage car, part of the Classic Cars event. And our own Chicken Little (little?) hands out some goodies to a little gal along the route. This duo played for the Hancock Tori Market, and for Bridgefest.
