PARADE OF NATIONS-2015
September 19, 2015
The Annual Parade of Nations, was held in Hancock/Houghton the third Saturday in September. It is an opportunity for visiting foreign students at both Universities, to show off their cultural heritage, and for them to present various differences to the Copper Country.
 
Many of the participants gather in the Quincy Green area of Finlandia University, in downtown Hancock, to line up in order for the Parade. Our Grand Marshall this year is Kevin Manninen. Prior to the start, MTU President Glenn Mroz (L) chats with Finlandia President Phillip Johnson, Singing the National Anthem was Karen Colbert, of Ojibwa College.
The first float was by the Ojibwa Indian community. The Argentina and Afghanistan contingent. The Finlandia presentatives. China came with this colorful float and dragon.
The MTU Cheerleading Team. These are the students from India. A float by the India students. A group representing the Country of Iran.
Israel has its group, This colorful group is from Nepal. And near the end, this contingent from Turkey, makes their way along the Parade route, which will take them to Houghton’s Dee Stadium, for dancing and loads of cultural foods.
