Hancock’s Barkell Elementary School dedicated in early June a rebuilding of its playground and equipment. Begining with a grant of $15,000 from KaBoom, and the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, the School PTO began a major fund-raising effort over the past year to rebuild and repopulate the School’s Playground.

To donate: PTO President, Tara Packard
With one preschooler looking over where she will be playing in the not too distant future, Hancock Public Schools Superintendent/Middle School Principal Monica Healy checks for any missed construction debris from the previous weekends construction and placement of the gear by a group of volunteer workers. These toddlers hope this Dedication business gets over quickly so they can get to more serious business of playing. With income from various fund raisers, and donations, nearly $45,000 was raised to purchase new playground equipment, to add to the 25 year old items originally installed back when the school was built. Hancock Barkell School PTO President, Tara Packard, receives a bouquet for her many efforts in the fund-raising. With a group of students out for the summer waiting to enjoy the new equipment, Tara cuts the ribbon, officially opening the newly updated School playground.
And it doesn’t take long for the new equipment to see use. Parents, teachers, and School Administrators hope that new funding grants, and donations, will allow the School to continue to add to the Playground equipment. If you, or a group you belong to, would like to be a contributor to this effort, use the link at the pictorial beginning. Our kids are our future, they deserve the things we can do to make life happier for each and every one of them.
