Hancock Campground Bathhouse Renovation
Grant Highlights for Press Release

The Department of Natural Resources is proud to be a partner in this project by providing a grant from the Recreation Passport program. Michigan’s Recreation Passport funds are obtained from the voluntary donation from Michigan residents when they purchase their vehicle license plate tabs each year. The purchase of a Recreation Passport for your car provides access to many State of Michigan parks, recreation areas, state forests, trails, boat launches, and state historic sites.

Additionally, a portion of the funds go toward the Recreation Passport grant program and back into local communities for public recreation. Last year, nearly $2 million was awarded to local communities for local park improvement projects, such as playgrounds, sports and fitness facilities, walkways, trails and more. Over the past decade, Recreation Passport has provided over 240 grants to Michigan communities, in excess of $14 million.

This is the City of Hancock’s first Recreation Passport grant for the Hancock Campground Bathhouse Renovation project. The city received a grant of $144,700 which represents 64% of the $225,200 total project cost. The grant supported renovation improvements at the campground bathhouse including a building addition to house new accessible shower facilities.

Projects like this do not just happen; they take a considerable amount of effort by all parties involved. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources would like to congratulate the City of Hancock for successfully completing this project from the design, obtaining the grant, and completing construction. The Michigan DNR is proud to be a partner in this project and hope that it will provide a great recreation experience for citizens and visitors for many years to come.
