01/27/24 HEIKINPAIVA 2024
The Finnish Theme Committee brings “Heikinpäivä 2024” to the City of Hancock on Saturday, January 27th from 10 am - 10 pm. Hancock’s mid-winter festival celebrates Finnish American culture and “the rolling of the bear” with family fun events throughout the day. Indoor activities take place at the Finnish American Heritage Center and the First United Methodist Church where outdoor activities take place on Quincy Green and Quincy Street in downtown Hancock.
10 am - 3 pm: Markets (Tori) - Finnish American Heritage Center & First United Methodist Church
11 am - Parade: Quincy Street, Hancock. Prizes.
11:15 am: Outdoor Activities on Quincy Green:
Spiral Bear Dance, Games, Kick Sled (vipukelkka) Races, Wife Carrying, Prizes and more.
1 pm - Polar Plunge: Quincy Green - $5 fee to plunge
2:30 - 4 pm: Animal Life: Art from the Kalevala - opening reception, Copper Country Community Arts Center, 126 East Quincy Street
7 - 10 pm: Dance & Buffet (Iltamat) - $15 per person. Finnish-American Heritage Center. Music by Back Room Boys. Hors d’oeuvres and raffle.
