Escape the symptoms of Cabin Fever and join the excitement of Hancock's mid-winter festival while celebrating the Finnish-American heritage of the Copper Country. Here’s what you can do …
• Get your favorite baked goods, handmade goods, and much more at the TORI (markets) from 10 am - 3 pm at the Finnish American Heritage Center and the First United Methodist Church. The cold season TORI and neighborhood market at the Hancock Community Hub will be open from 10 am - 2 pm.
• North Wind Books opens at 10 am, so you can get your Heikinpäivä gear and commemorative Heikinpäivä posters to support Copper Country Finns & Friends. Shop online and pickup in-store at CLICK HERE
• The Heikinpäivä Parade is at 11 am. Get into the spirit of the festival by being in the parade. Grab your friends & family and meet at 103 East Quincy Street on Saturday at 10:30 am for an 11 am parade (Quincy Street will be closed at 10:30 am).
• Bring the family to the Outdoor Games on Quincy Green after the Heikinpäivä Parade (at approximately 11:30 am). Enjoy the Bear Spiral, Kick Sled Races, Whip Sled, the famous "Wife Carrying Contest" and much more!
• The Keweenaw Co-op will host a Finnish Long Drink sampling from 1 - 5 pm. Stop by their new store at 610 Quincy Street to enjoy your choice of three varieties of Long Drink (Cranberry, Peach, and Citrus). You must be 21+ to participate.
• The Copper Country Community Arts Center invites the public to the opening reception of the "Animal Life: Art from the Kalevala" collection inspired by the 19th-century poetry epic recounting Finland’s national mythology. There are over 40 pieces of new artwork by local artists that you can experience from 2 - 4 pm at 126 Quincy Street.
• ILTAMAT (Dance/Hors d’oeuvres) at the Finnish American Heritage Center at 7 pm ($15 admission at the door).
• Visit local businesses, shops, and restaurants throughout downtown Hancock to celebrate Hancock’s mid-winter festival your way!
