Northern Wefts 2011 (Free to the Public)

Northern Wefts 2011 is the biennial Midwest Weavers conference which will be held at Finlandia University in Hancock Michigan June 23- 25, 2011

On Thursday June 23rd we will have a Gallery walk/talk of Fiber exhibits on Quincy street in Hancock from 3 pm — 5 pm, also a live performance by the Nadine Sanders 'the Singing Weaver' who will bring her voice and her fiddle to entertain us. She will be on the steps of the Hancock Middle school from about 3 pm — 4 pm. A loom built by the Michigan Tech Archeology class of Carl Blair will also be at this site for you to try your hand at weaving on this ancient loom.

Thursday pm their will be a keynote address at 7:30pm by Sheila O'Hara called the 'Strands of Time' Sheila will talk about her weaving on Dobby and Jacquard looms and her adventures to Italy and Cairo. Tickets will be available at the door for $10.

FREE to the public:
The vendor Area will also be open to the public at no cost from 9 am to 6pm on Thursday and Friday and Saturday 9 am to 3pm. we have 24 Fiber related vendors. There will also be a children’s table in the vendor area.

Our Weaving and Fiber Exhibits will be open to the public Friday from 9 am to 5pm and Saturday 9 am to 3 pm. The Members Exhibit ‘Natural Elements' at the Finnish American Heritage center, 'The Reuse, Renew, Recycle' Exhibit at the Maki Library and the 'Aurora Borealis' Guild exhibit will be at the Jutila center in the Community Room along with the Students exhibit in the Reflection Gallery.

On Friday June 24th there will have a Fashion Show at the Hancock Middle School starting at 8 pm with a reception to follow again tickets will be available at the door for $10.
