Sep 3, 2020 Naming Ceremony - Merv Klemett Hardball Field Driving Park
For immediate release:
The City of Hancock Recreation Commission will host a ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020 at 7:30 pm at the Hardball Field at the Driving Park in Hancock.
The Hardball Field presently used by Finlandia University and others will be named in honor of Mervin “Merv” Klemett. A new plaque will be placed on the back stop and a new sign will honor his long-standing history of playing, coaching, managing, umpiring, and mentoring young and old ball players.
Please join the family and friends of Merv Klemett and local officials in celebrating this posthumous honor. In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved into the Four Seasons Chalet or the Houghton County Arena.
Following the short ceremony, cake will be served, and The City of Hancock will show “The Sandlot” on the outdoor cinema if weather permits.
Social distancing is required. Masks will be required if festivities move indoors due to weather.
