Groundbreaking - Quincy Haven Apartments
August 13, 2010
A large three story addition to the Hancock Manor finally broke ground in a ceremony on August 13, 2010.
This chart supplies some information about the $4.8 M project, of which some $146,000 came from U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development Bands; $1..1M MI State Housing Development Funds; over $3.5M in American Recovery & Reinvestment Tax Credits; and other funding sources. Hancock Housing commission (HHC) Executive Director Gail Ross, stands with an informational display prior to the Ceremony. HHC President Ron Antila, gave the Welcome remarks, and introduced Commission member, both past and present.
John Haeussler, V.P., HHC, provided a history of the project and background info, and made special dignitary introductions. Pastor Bucky Beach gave the Opening Prayer. HHC Exec. Director Gail Ross, gives some project specifics. 110th District MI State Representative Mike Lahti, Hancock, is thanked for his help and support, and gives some funding information.
Hancock City Mayor Bill Laitila provides some comments and background. A partial view of the attending crowd in the Hancock Manor Community Room. Tim Seppanen, of project low bidder Yalmer Mattila Contracting Co., speaks to the crowd about the construction. And in an unscheduled event, presents Gail Ross with a bouquet of flowers for all her efforts and hard work, while dealing with treatment for cancer, and helping to make the project a reality for handicapped persons to find low income housing.
A large number of Monarch butterflies were shipped from Florida for the occasion, and were released following a luncheon. The formal groundbreaking ceremony.
